The Book of Saints: St. Patrick is the first of a series of films about the heroes of Christendom.

Encompassing the barbarism, excitement, and high adventure of life in pre-Medieval Ireland during the last days of the Roman Empire, The Book of Saints: St. Patrick follows the spoiled, irreligious, and arrogant young Gaewyn Succat (soon to be Patrick) from his kidnapping by Irish raiders, through six years of slavery to a Druidic Chieftain, his growth in faith, his escape, ordination to the priesthood, and eventual return to Ireland--this time not as a slave but as bishop, herald, and shepherd.

The Druids strongly oppose this new religion, and Patrick must counter magic with miracles, demons with angels, and doubt with a gritty, tough and humorous Faith. After slowly working his way toward Tara, the seat of the Irish High King, Patrick has his pivotal showdown--within the castle walls--with the ArchDruid Lochru. When the battle between Druids and Christianity is over, Patrick emerges victorious, and the King commands his scribes to record the day as The Beginning of the Baptism of Erin Patrick sets to work changing all Ireland.

Much later, having dispatched his priests to all corners of Erin to build and preach, Patrick follows the example of Moses, and ascending a mountain to converse with God, refuses even the request of his own guardian angel, to come down, until God grants his requests for the Irish people. He lives in privation and solitude, beset by demons and defeating them with his immortal poem-prayer, The Lorica. All evil visibly flees the Emerald Isle, his Angel reappears to announce that God has granted his prayers, and Patrick comes down off the mountain, his work and life complete.

At last, old, dying, and worn down with years of work, prayer and self-sacrifice, and still seeking the glory of God, he is shown a vision of Ireland. His angel tells him that Catholicism will never die out in the Emerald Isle. Patrick lies back, fulfilled, and look out over the land to see bare hillsides morph into cathedrals, plains become monasteries, and all of Ireland blossoming into full and vital Christianity.

The Book of Saints: St. Patrick is the thrilling, passionate, adventurous chronicle of the making of a true man, and a true saint, a journey that is its own destination. You will find yourself wanting to see The Book of Saints: St. Patrick again and again.
